About Brown Recluse Spiders
Brown recluse spiders are native to the united states. They are typically found in the area between central midwestern states to the deep south. But these little brown spiders can be transported to other parts of the country, especially in packing boxes and cargo.
Just because you don't see these spiders, dose not mean that they aren't there.. these spiders prefer isolation. Their favorite places to live are inside houses and surroundings of houses. Attics, closets, old boxes, garages, storage buildings, and places that don't get heavy traffic are places that these dangerous spiders will hide.
When you are working out in the yard, moving flower pots, old wood, or working in storage sheds you need to be cautious of brown recluse spiders.
If you see a spider that looks like a brown recluse, you will need to identity it. These spiders are fairly small (around 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch). They are brown or yellowish brown in color. They are most identified by a violin pattern on their back.
Brown recluse spiders have such powerful venom because that is how they attack their prey (insects) to kill and eat them. They do not seek out humans to attack, but they will bite a human if they feel threatened.
A lot of times people are bitten by brown recluse spiders without even realizing it. But symptoms begin to show up soon after the bite. These symptoms include:
- small bite mark
- running a fever
- feeling cold
- possible nausea or vomiting
- itching
This is when the venom begins to attack the skin and starts breaking it down and destroying it. Usually these bites need medical attention immediately. They can continue to grow worse and worse and they can take months to heal.
